Clarenville one victory from first provincial championship
Ken Oliver (koliver@thetelegram.com) From The Telegram
The Clarenville Caribous flat out dominated the Conception Bay North CeeBees in Game 4 of the Telegram Herder Memorial Championship Series at Mile One Centre Friday night, collecting a convincing 10-3 win over the defending champs.
Andrew Pearcey, Derrick Kent and Mark Chaplin each scored their second of the game in the third while the CeeBees were held off the scoresheet.
In a surprising move, with a seven goal lead established, Clarenville coach Randy Pearcey pulled Jason Churchill from the net and inserted veteran senior hockey crease-keeper Kirk Stoyles who faced two shots, stopping one and letting the post stop the second.
Freddy Diamond was pulled after allowing his eight goal of the game on 32 shots. Bronson Dawe finished the game, allowing one goal on four shots.
The CeeBees outshot the Caribous 51-38 overall.
The Herd, who lead the series 3-1, can wrap up the series and their first provincial senior hockey championship with a win in Game 5 Sunday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
